Each day, your child needs a towel, water bottle and ONE snack.  Please label all jackets with your child's name.  Thank you!

Please continue to practice putting on/taking off jackets and tying shoes independently.  It can take a long time for us to get to recess when 20 kids need help to zip or button up their jackets and tie their shoes.

Theme: Winter, snow, and cold weather

Reading:  This week we will continue to enjoy stories about winter and cold weather.  A major skill for this nine weeks is retelling the story.  We practice including the important events from the beginning, middle and end of the story.   Our reading assessment scores require that a student not only reads the words but can accurately retell/recall what he has read.

Writing:  The children continue to make books and develop their writing as they learn to make letter/sound connections and develop their own ideas or writing. This week we are focusing on writing complete sentences to tell our story. The books we are working on are non-fiction winter books.

Word Wall Words: REVIEW: red, green, yellow, orange, purple, blue, white, pink, brown, black, my, is, to, like, can, see, go, the, in, it, all, me, and, big, has, on, we, but, look, at, little, for, he, said, was

NEW WORDS:  not, she

Word Study:  OP  and OT Word Families  We will be working with both families this week and comparing them as well.

Math: During math workshop, we will continue to emphasize numeracy and problem solving to 20. We will begin to explore number sentences (addition and subtraction) with real problems we can act out in class.  This week we will decompose the number 4.  4 can be 2 and 2, 3 and 1, 1 and 3, 4 and 0, and 0 and 4.

Science: We will explore weather!
