Ladybugs, Ladybugs, Ladybugs!!

Olivia's mom brought some ladybugs for a release today.  There were so many.  Ask your child about it today.  They loved it!

Cookie Subtraction

We practiced our Subtraction today with cookie crisp cereal.  The kids enjoyed using it as manipulatives and then eating it afterward.

Word Study: review all short vowel sounds-a,e,i,o,u  

Math: Review measurement-comparing weight, height, length, and capacity using nonstandard units of measurement. We will introduce subtraction this week, as well.

Science: Continue with Insects and Sun/Moon
Homework: Read 20 minutes every night.
Optional Activities:
  • Monday: Choose an insect.  Write 3 sentences about your insect.  Illustrate it!
  • Tuesday:  Use your home reader to practice “retelling” the plot and characters of a book.
  • Wednesday:   Teach your mom or dad to play Take Away 1 or 2.  If you can’t remember, you each get 15 pieces of cereal. Take turns taking away 1 or 2 (you decide!). First one to get rid of all of their cereal is the winner. If you don’t play with cereal, you can play with any small pieces of junk
  • Thursday:  Visit www.raz-kids.com
  • Friday:  Pack up your library books and practice your home reader!

What a crazy week we have had!  We are so glad to all be safe and sound.  If you didn’t send your home reader bag and/or library books back today, please do so as soon as you can.  Thank you to all who were able to help out at field day.  The kids loved every minute of it!

Measurement

Today in Math we practiced measuring different objects with unifix cubes.  Each child found an object to trace and then measure with cubes.  They then had to write what they measured and how many cubes long it is.

This week on FRIDAY, we will have our school wide Field Day.  Please feel free to join your child.  Our field day events will take place during 8:30-10:00.  We will have an adjusted schedule that day.  Our lunch will take place at 11:00!


Theme: Insects
Reading:  Shared reading and interactive read-alouds about insects and their needs, with focus on the elements of non-fiction writing.
Writing:  Using plants and insects to write both fiction and non-fiction.

Outdoor Learning Center

Yesterday we got to help water and plant some new seeds. We planted dill and zinnias.  We saw peppers and strawberries that have grown.

Remember that THIS Thursday and Friday, the children get out at NOON.  We are looking forward to conferencing with you.  These are optional conferences.  If you did not sign up, we are assuming you do not feel the need for a conference at this time!  Remember our schedules will be completely different on these two days.

  • Monday:  Pick 5 words from our word wall and write them using dot letters!
  • Tuesday:  Make a list of 5 words with short A and 5 words with short O (cat, dog)
  • Wednesday:   Go on a 3D shape walk.  Come inside and draw what you saw.
  • Thursday:  Grab a handful of socks and a handful of small toys.  Which pile has more?  Less?  How many more/less?
  • Friday:  Pack up your library books and practice your home reader!
