Kindergarten News
Week of January 19-23, 2016
Due to the holiday,
we will be going to the library on Wednesday this week. If you haven’t returned your books, send them
by tomorrow!
The 100th
day of school will be on Feb. 2nd.
Attached is a separate letter in regards to this special day! Stay tuned for details on our 100 day parade
which will take place on that same day, as well.
Our new school
building dedication also will be Feb. 2 at 4 pm. All are welcome! An invitation via email is forthcoming today.
Theme: Winter, Snow, and cold
weather
Reading: This week we will continue
to enjoy stories about winter and cold weather. We continue to practice
re-telling the stories we read because our reading assessment scores require
that a student not only reads but can accurately retell/recall what he has read.
Writing: The children continue to make books and develop their writing as
they learn to make letter/sound connections and develop their own ideas or
writing. This week we are focusing on using illustrations to help tell the
story. Specifically, we are focusing on illustrations in non-fiction text.
Word Wall Words: REVIEW: I, the, see, like,
my, is, and, was, me, go, said, that, for, in, it, if, you, can, to, on, into,
he, she,
NEW WORDS: has, but
Word Study: OP Word Family
Math: During math workshop, we will continue to emphasize numeracy and
problem solving to 20. We will begin to explore number sentences with real
problems we can act out in class. This
week we will decompose the numbers 5 and 6.
Science: We will explore the seasons!
Social Studies: What jobs can we do to
help others?
Homework: Read 20 minutes every night.
Optional Activities:
- Monday: Write six “OP” words.
- Tuesday: Try to count to 100 to mom or
dad. Can you count by 10’s? How about by 5’s?
- Wednesday: Write the word has. Trace over it 4 times using a different
color each time. Now do the same
with the word but.
- Thursday: Visit www.raz-kids.com
- Friday: Pack up your
library books and/or home readers to return to school!
