Week of April 11- April 15, 2016
This week on
FRIDAY, we will have our school wide Field Day.
Please feel free to join your child.
Our field day events will take place during 8:30-10:00. We will have an adjusted schedule that
day. Our lunch will take place at 11:00!
Theme: Insects
Reading: Shared reading and
interactive read-alouds about insects and their needs, with focus on the
elements of non-fiction writing.
Writing: Using plants and insects to write both fiction and non-fiction.
Word Wall Words: REVIEW: I, the, see, like,
my, is, and, do, was, me, go, said, that, for, in, your, if, you, can, to, on,
there, where, after, into, he, she, but, has, of, make, could, what, it, we,
little, him, her, are, very, first, than, long
WE HAVE NO NEW WORDS THIS WEEK……PLEASE REVIEW ALL WORDS!
Word Study: short vowel sounds of U and I
Math: Measurement (length, height, weight, capacity)
We will address what measurement is and our focus will be
on comparing (taller/shorter, heavier/lighter, holds more/holds less, and
longer/shorter)
Science: Parts of an Insect, Day vs. Night, Sun and Moon
Homework: Read 20 minutes every night.
Optional Activities:
- Monday: Practice writing the word
wall words as mom or dad calls them out to you.
- Tuesday: Make a list of 5 words with short U and 5
words with short I (bug/pig)
- Wednesday: Order
your family by height. TELL about
it. Mom is taller than Sally. I am shorter than Dad. Etc.
- Thursday: Use a book to practice “retelling” the
plot. Be sure to include the
characters by name. If you need a
book, log onto www.raz-kids.com
- Friday: Pack up your library books and practice
your home reader!
