Texas
We are learning about Texas for the next couple of weeks. Yesterday we read a book with lots of facts about Texas. We drew the shape of Texas and some symbols, and then we wrote 3 facts about TX. Today we read The Legend of the Bluebonnet by Tomie DePaola and we made a bluebonnet and wrote about it.
Soil and Worms
We explored soil the other day in science. The kids looked at it with magnifying glasses and we talked about the different things we saw in the soil. Today we got to work with some people from Urban Gardens in our outdoor learning center. We got to help plant a tomato plant, strawberries and peppers. Our classroom worms came too. Today we will be learning about worms and tomorrow we will get to explore and touch the worms.

Candy Heart Day
In Math we did ways to make six using conversation hearts, and then we got to eat them. Then we practiced writing our numbers to 100. In Science we did a couple of candy heart experiments. The first was a sink or float. The kids predicted and then wrote the results.
Our next experiment was to see what would happen to the candy hearts when we put them in water, soda and vinegar. The yellow one is mountain dew, it was the only clearish soda in the machine.

Making Six
We played a math game with pom poms and bowls. It was basketball to 6. They would try to throw the 6 pom poms in their bowl and see how many made it in, and then write the addition problem on their dry erase board.
Then we read The Day it Rained Hearts and made story problems with different colored hearts.

We will be exploring coins over the next few weeks. If you
can please send a Ziploc baggie with a variety of coins. It doesn’t need
to be a lot. For example, 7 pennies, 3 nickels, 3 dimes, and 2 quarters
would be awesome! If you are able to do this, please write your child’s
name on the baggie so it can be returned to you!
Parents, please remember to send your child with their Valentine
Cards on Friday. We will help the children “mail” them that
morning. We hope to see you at our class party on Friday at 1:00!
Remember that next week on Monday there is no school.

100 Day of School
We had a busy day in Kindergarten starting with our 100 day parade. The shirts looked fabulous and very creative! We made pictures out of 100, we made a book of 100 things, we made 20 handprints to make 100 fingers, we ate a 100 snack, and we chewed gum and drew 100 gumballs. We also counted to 100 many times and many ways. We also had a cultural arts program about Africa.
