Week of August 31st-September 4th

Please remember to check your child’s folder each night and remove papers daily.  It often contains important information, and it shows your child you value their work.
Each day please send a water bottle, healthy snack, towel, and daily binder.
Some children like to have a light sweater in their backpack.  The rooms can be chilly. Remember to send your child in closed toed, rubber soled shoes.
Remember all transportation changes need to be in writing to your teacher by noon.
Please complete the PTA Big Form ASAP.  This is your way to order directories, join the PTA, and purchase a yearbook.  There will not be a paper form this year.  To access this ink, go to www.rcepta.com  This is a great webpage to frequent…it has a lot of useful information.

This week we will explore the following:

Theme: All About Me!
Reading:  Shared reading and Interactive read-alouds of books that focus on me, my family, and my classroom.  Our focus will be on making connections as we enjoy the text.

Word Wall Words:  Our friends’ names in the class
Math: We will continue to lay the groundwork for Math workshop by setting up the routines. While we do this, we will explore sorting by various attributes.

Science: Being a scientist, making observations, and exploring our Five Senses
Social Studies:  Exploring our roles in our homes and our classroom.

Homework: Read 20 minutes every night.
Optional Activities:
·        Tuesday:  Tell your parents the names of five new friends!
·        Wednesday:  Can you sort a pile of toys?  Tell your parents your sorting rule.
·        Thursday:  Draw a picture of our playground!

Learning About Our Names

Today we counted and graphed how many letters in our name for math.  We also did tear paper art with our names.  They turned out really cute!  We also talked about how to draw ourselves and adding details like hair, facial features and the correct colors.  It has been a busy day.   When they get home ask them how many letters are in their name and what a scientist does?
