Kindergarten News

Week of March 30- April 2, 2014

In your child's folder today is a flier about our Spring Field Trip.  We are thrilled to be visiting Memorial  Middle School on Friday, April 17th to see The Little Mermaid!  The cost is $5.00 per child.  We will leave at 9:30 to see the show.  Afterwards, we will picnic at Bendwood Park.  Parents are welcome to meet us at MMS to see the show and to follow us for the picnic at the park.  If you want to join us, email your teacher and send $5.00 for yourself, as well.    

Please send in any individual picture money/forms and signed report card envelopes.

Remember tomorrow is another testing day at RCE- 4th grade is taking the STARR writing exam. Thank you for not visiting campus.

During this changeable “spring” weather, don’t forget to check the forecast before sending your child to school. Or, you could just be sure there is always a light jacket or sweater in their backpack. Even when it is warm outside, the classrooms can be chilly!

• Tuesday:  Make a list of 10 “UT” words.
• Wednesday:   Write a list of what plants need to grow.
• Thursday:  Write a math story using two numbers that can be combined to make eight. (Ex: There are 4 caterpillars in the garden. 4 more came along. How many are there now?
• Friday:  Pack up your library books and practice your home reader! 

Word Work

We worked in small groups today to make ug words.  They built the words w magnetic letters and then wrote them on a white board.  Then we shared what words we made.  

Word Problems

We were doing some word problems today on the active board and the kids really liked the site.  It is called abcya.  Here is the link to what we did.

Week of March 23- March 27, 2015

We hope everyone had a good break. It was super fun to hear all about last week.  They always have so much to share!  Now that Spring Break is over, the rest of the school year will fly by quickly.  There will be lots of learning going on between now and the end of this school year!

If you haven’t done so, please sign and return your child’s report card envelope. 

Theme: Living Things and Plants

Reading:  Shared reading and interactive read-alouds about plants and their needs, with focus on the elements of non-fiction writing.

Writing:  Plants and spring.

• Friday:  Pack up your library books and practice your home reader!

Kindergarten News

Week of March 9 - March 13, 2015

     

 Friday morning before school is Donuts with Dads.  If you choose to participate, send your little one to school with dad or another special someone to share a donut before school in the cafeteria.  PTA provides donuts and juice. They ask that each child have one donut J

This begins at 7:30 a.m. 

This Friday is also Field Day.  Kindergarten's designated time is 9:00-9:50.  If you would like to join us, stop by the office and grab a sticker.  Most of the activities will take place on the field where Boosterthon was.  Our class will rotate through 6 stations and then the  gym.  Afterwards, the kids will have a popsicle.  It is important that your child wears tennis shoes that day.  For those that buy a lunch, the cafeteria will be selling sack lunches only.  I am not sure what the sack lunch will be at this time.  I haven't received the field day shirts, but once I do, I will send them home asap.  If you didn't buy a shirt, no worries.  The theme for the day is orange and blue so wear those colors!!

Theme: Finishing Texas and Beginning our study of Plants!

Reading:  Shared reading and interactive read-alouds about cowboys and cowgirls, focus on predicting events and comprehension.

Writing:  We are finishing our Texas stories this week!

Gummyworm vs. Earthworm

Today we measured our gummy worm and earthworm and compared the two.  When they finished they got to eat the gummy worm and then write some facts we've learned about worms.  Next week we will begin our focus on living/nonliving things.
